DRY NEEDLING

WHAT IS DRY NEEDLING?

Dry needling is a manual therapy where a thin, monofilament needle is inserted into a trigger point, area of pain or stiffness, or tissue to improve mobility, pain, and function.  Dry Needling can be particularly helpful in chronic / persistent pain issues, as well as being a choice in high-level sports medicine to treat acute muscle injuries and keep athletes on their training at peak levels.

If you have persistent muscle pain, dry needling is an incredibly helpful technique as part of a comprehensive treatment approach.

The therapist will take you through a full assessment and talk about how dry needling may benefit your particular condition.

DRY NEEDLING HAS BEEN USED TO SUCCESSFULLY TREAT:

  • Neck pain

  • Back pain

  • Hip pain

  • Shoulder pain

  • Knee pain

  • Sciatica

  • Tendinitis

  • Headaches

  • Jaw (TMJ) pain

  • Muscle strains

  • Muscle spasms

  • Elbow pain

  • ...and more!

WHAT KIND OF NEEDLES ARE USED?

At Anti-Fragile Physical Therapy, we use single-use Japanese and German monofilament needles, which allow for improved feel and treatment comfort. The typical needles are so thin, they are smaller than the mechanoreceptors in the skin, and often aren’t even perceived when they meet your skin. You may have seen similar needles used if you have ever had other needle-based therapeutic techniques.
